Chronic Pain: Your Pattaya Massage Optionsposted on 19 November 2011 | posted in PattayaWhen you mention the phrase Pattaya massage, some people raise their eyebrows and think you're making a euphamism for something else entirely. Yet, massage is a serious therapy in Thailand, and it's something that's little understood in the west. Many think it's just a gentle back rub to ease stress. It's so much more - it can cure specific ailments over time, and revitalise and re-condition your body. Many people suffer from chronic back pain, and many people sadly only get enough help to treat or simply ameliorate the symptoms, not the causes - typical western medical treatment! In Thailand, there's a big emphasis on natural remedies like massage and acupuncture and detox. Not only that, but Thailand have excellent hospitals with a progressive and open-minded attitude when it comes to helping people get better. For example, many people come to Thailand for IVF treatment, stem cell therapy, etc. When it comes to massage, all the hospitals and clinics I know have their own professional masseurs, and massage is a recognised therapy in Thailand, not an "alternative" like it's seen in the west - it's a common prescription for many patients to be given not a course of pills, but massage sessions. If you do suffer from chronic back pain or sciatica or any kind of muscle pains in your body, then a clinic close to your hotel is a good place to visit to get a doctor to examine you first of all, and then he can recommend therapy for you. The therapy could be a particular form of massage, acupuncture, lifestyle change recommendations (diet, yoga, exercise) or all three. Sometimes massage ISN'T recommended for particular health problems, so that's why it's wise to get a professional opinion in Thailand first before going to one of the many massage shops you see dotted around Pattaya. There are many kinds of massage - foot massage, oil massage, head massage, and different "strengths" too. I've had massages that have literally knocked the wind out of me, and caused me sharp pain at the time (all part of the process!) - and after the massage, I've felt wonderful! Sometimes with massage, it really is no pain, no gain. But having said that, you need the appropriate massage for your back troubles. I hope your trip to Thailand can be a turning point in your health, and you can learn and discover therapies here that can turn your health around. Share this blog entry: |
